About Solo Dad Life

Lived experience, honest conversation, and support for fathers navigating life after loss.

  • Matt, founder of Solo Dad Life, standing thoughtfully and representing support for widowed fathers

Matt is a widowed father who understands grief not as a concept, but as a lived experience. He lost his father at age 11 and watched his mother raise two boys alone. Over the decades that followed, grief continued to shape his life — through the loss of close family members, friends, and ultimately his wife, Marci, who died after a short battle with cancer when their youngest daughter was just 13 months old. Becoming a Solo Dad changed everything, and it deepened his commitment to helping other fathers navigate loss, identity, and the responsibility of showing up for their kids while finding their way back to living.

Why Solo Dad Life Exists

Grief entered Matt’s life early. When his father died suddenly at 45, Matt was only 11 years old. He watched his mother — the strongest Solo Mom he knows — raise two boys alone, laying the foundation for how he understands resilience, responsibility, and parenthood.

There hasn’t been a decade of Matt’s life untouched by loss. In his 20s and 30s, he experienced the deaths of close family members and lifelong friends. Each loss shaped his understanding of grief — not as something that disappears, but something that changes how you move through the world.

Becoming a Solo Dad

Everything changed when Matt’s wife, Marci, died from cancer at age 38. Overnight, he became a widowed father to a toddler, carrying both profound loss and immediate responsibility.

Like many widowed fathers, Matt searched for other men who could speak honestly about what came next — how they survived, how they kept parenting, and how they eventually found a way back to living.

He didn’t find many.

From Podcast to Coaching

That absence led to the creation of the Solo Dad Podcast — a space for honest conversations about love, loss, fatherhood, and rebuilding life after grief. For many fathers, the podcast became a lifeline and a reminder that they weren’t alone.

Over time, it became clear that listening wasn’t enough for everyone. Many fathers wanted personal guidance, accountability, and a place to work through what came next.

That’s why Solo Dad Life expanded into one-on-one and small-group coaching — offering structured, personal support grounded in lived experience and the CLIMB framework.

The Mission

Matt’s mission is simple: to give widowed fathers a place where grief can be spoken honestly and the path forward feels possible.

Whether through conversation or coaching, the goal is the same — to help fathers find strength, purpose, and hope in fatherhood while navigating life after loss.
